Welcome to the Food Additives Wiki 2010

This project addresses the importance of food safety. It is intended to allow grade 12 students in SMAKBO (Sekolah Menengah Analis Kimia Bogor) Indonesia to build their knowledge on food-additives and its relationship to human health. The students will work collaboratively in groups and communicate with other students to express their knowledge and ideas by building wiki pages.

The project's essential Issue is:

How safe are the foods that we eat and what can we contribute to make our foods safer for us?

Curriculum Standards

The project is designed based on the following curriculum standards,
  • Understanding food additives and the effects it has on human health (Organic Chemistry)
  • Using digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others (ICT)

Expected Outcome

Students will have the abilities to
  1. Identify different types of food additives currently in available in food products
  2. Describe the impact of food additive (safe & dangerous) on people’s health
  3. Describe different ways to influence and ascertain safe use of food additives
  4. Design a website to communicate and express their knowledge and ideas
